LIVE TV GIBBERISH, LANGUAGE AS A VIRUS AND PONTYPOOL CHANGES EVERYTHING

What does the current spate of TV personalities falling prey to Broadcast Babbling Breakdown Syndrome have to do with an extremely creepy zero-budget Canadian zombie movie cult classic? Well, to begin with, they are both concerned with language. Also, they're both profoundly creepy.

The film is called PONTYPOOL, and it's based on a novel titled PONTYPOOL CHANGES EVERYTHING, by Tony Burgess. It's a very good film, starring Stephen McHattie, one of the creepiest character actors working in cinema today.

If you have a chance to see the movie, by all means do so. However, here's something else that's cool about PONTYPOOL... the movie is set entirely in a small town radio station. This makes it feel kind of like Apocalypse WKRP. And guess what? There's a PONTYPOOL RADIO PLAY that you can listen to right now.

The radio play features all the same actors from the movie, and was produced for Canada's CBC Radio by director Bruce McDonald at the same time as he was shooting the film version.

Give it a listen and see if it gives you the same 'frisson' of recognition as it did yer old pal Jerky.
